Alamance Achieves is an all-in partnership of leaders in education, business, government, foundations, community organizations and faith organizations. From across Alamance County, these leaders are working together to tackle pressing issues and achieve long-term goals. By aligning efforts and leveraging existing resources around common goals, we will improve outcomes for all children, from cradle to career. Click here to see more about the support staff who are supporting this local initiative.

A team of “backbone staff” provide strategic assistance to support the community’s work. Staff work to convene, connect and coach partners through a structured collaborative improvement process, harnessing the power of data and community perspectives to achieve big goals. Research shows that focusing the community’s efforts in specific areas is the best way to ensure these efforts produce maximum results — that’s the power of collective impact. Click here to see more about key goals.

Finally, Alamance Achieves uses data like test scores and graduation rates to serve as progress indicators toward our key goals. We use data like a flashlight, illuminating opportunities to continually improve our education outcomes and inform our decisions. Click here to see current indicators and progress.

OUR KEY GOALS

WHY ALAMANCE ACHIEVES?

In any thriving community, previous generations put resources in place to help the community flourish—these include things like good schools, libraries, playgrounds, healthcare and programs to assist those in need.

As a community, we have a responsibility to give every child equitable opportunities in life. In the long term, happy, healthy children support the overall success of our entire community. It may take time to see a cumulative effect—but eventually we all benefit.

However, there is still work to be done. Today, about one in three children in Alamance County lives in poverty. Children whose environment limits their access to healthy foods, safe places to play and high-quality schools are less likely to be ready for kindergarten, less likely to graduate from high school and less likely to get jobs that can support their families.

By improving the grid of resources our community offers—libraries, museums, schools, community centers, early learning programs, health care providers and more—and making sure kids can readily access these resources, we can help children who are struggling overcome hurdles to success.
